On December 10, 2008 the UN General Assembly adopted the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (OP-ICESCR), which is now open for signiature. Once entered into force, the OP-ICESCR will allow for individual complaints to be made to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights directly from those whose rights have been violated.
